Kiwi tastes like a mix of strawberries, pineapple, and gooseberries. The berry contains many vitamins and minerals. However, you need to know how to choose the right product so that it is ripe and sweet. We tell you how to quickly and easily peel a kiwi, and what you can combine it with.
How to choose and store kiwi
Before buying in the store, press the fruit lightly with your finger to check it. A ripe kiwi should not be too hard or soft. In the first case, you will get an unripe and sour berry. In the second case, it may be an overripe product that can no longer be eaten. Rub the skin of the kiwi a little: if the villi fall off, this indicates that the fruit is ripe.
There should be no dents, spots or damage on the kiwi skin. If you smell a wine aroma from the fruit, it means it has been stored for too long. After purchasing the kiwi, it is advisable to eat it within the next few days: the product can be stored fresh for no longer than 10 days at room temperature. You cannot put it in the refrigerator: the fruit will become tasteless there.
Advice If you bought hard fruits, leave them for a couple of days in a dark, dry and warm place. For example, you can put the kiwi in a cupboard in a paper bag.
How to eat a product
Kiwis are usually peeled before eating, but it is better not to do this: compared to the pulp, the skin of the tropical berry contains more fiber, vitamins, and folic acid by 50, 32 and 34%, respectively. Rinse the fruit well under running water to prevent agricultural pesticides from entering the body. You can also use special products for washing fruits and vegetables. If you are bothered by the villi, rub the skin with a paper towel or a fruit brush. The structure of the kiwi skin resembles a peach and does not cause discomfort while eating.
Interesting fact Two kiwis contain more vitamin C than a medium-sized orange.
How to eat kiwi without peeling
The peeled berry can be cut into pieces. It can be eaten with a special dessert spoon in combination with other fruits, desserts, or hot dishes. Try making homemade kiwi chips.

How to eat kiwi with the peel
The fruit with the peel is eaten in the same way as the peeled one. Kiwi can be cut into circles, cubes, or slices. The berry will complement a fruit plate or become an independent snack. The product can also be added to yogurt, cottage cheese, smoothies, or fruit salad, or made into bruschetta with cottage cheese.
How to Peel a Kiwi
There are several ways to peel the fruit:
- using a sharp knife or vegetable peeler, cut the skin into thin strips;
- with a spoon – you need to cut the fruit in half and scoop out the pulp as close to the peel as possible;
- boiling water – dip the kiwi in it for 30 seconds, then cool the berry in cold water, after which the skin will easily come off with your hands.
What does the product go with?
In a salad, kiwi is combined with other tropical fruits: oranges, tangerines, and bananas. The berry goes well with hot meat dishes: chicken, turkey, and ham. No less popular is the combination of kiwi with seafood and cheese. For dessert, you can also make ice cream with banana from the fruit.
What does the product go with?
The best time to eat kiwi is the first half of the day. It is not advisable to eat this berry in the evening, since in the second half of the day fructose does more harm to the body than good. The daily norm of kiwi is no more than one or two pieces. If we are talking about dried fruits, then eat no more than 150 grams per day.
What can be done?
Buy ripe kiwi fruits and use them to prepare various dishes, from desserts to meat and side dishes. The berry will add a fresh taste and a pleasant sourness to familiar food and diversify the menu.
